A carpenter was on Tuesday remanded to prison after being charged with having an unlicensed gun and ammunition.
An emotional Darren Eddie, 22, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown and pleaded not guilty to all three of the charges that were read against him.
Eddie was charged with having in his possession a 9mm Glock pistol, 35 9mm rounds of ammunition and 26 rounds of .32-calibre ammunition, which were all allegedly found on April 15, in Georgetown.
The court heard that the area where the munitions were found was in the yard of a residence where Eddie and three other persons reside.
Eddie’s lawyer said the police conducted a search in the home but found nothing.
The lawyer said it was when the officers went into Eddie’s yard that they allegedly found the illegal items in a septic tank that was covered with a piece of wood.
Prosecutor Deniro Jones gave no details about the find but objected to bail based on the gravity of the charge and the penalty it attracts.
As a result, Eddie was remanded to prison and ordered to return to court on May 9, when the matter will be heard by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.
