Two prisoners from the Camp Street jail were last evening rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical attention following an altercation.
Up to press time, a remanded prisoner whose name was given only as Franklin was seeking medical attention in the Accident and Emergency Unit.
According to Prisons Director Carl Graham, their investigations revealed that the two men at around 6.30 pm, got into an altercation which stemmed from an old feud. The Prisons Director told this newspaper that they only got a statement from one of the victims and they are waiting to get clearance to take a statement from Franklin. Stabroek News understands that Franklin suffered wounds to his hands and chest while the other prisoner was stabbed in the palm of his hand.
Investigations are ongoing.
The incident comes in the wake of major unrest at the prison which led to a fire on March 3rd which claimed 17 lives.
