Rosignol United and Mahaicony United battled to a 0-0 result when the Berbice Football Association (BFA) ‘West Berbice League’ continued Saturday at the Mahaicony Sports Club ground.
It was the visitors that looked the more likely winner in a contest reduced to 70 minutes and played under wet conditions.
Cornel Taylor should have opened the scoring for Rosignol in the 12th minute. Latching onto a perfectly placed right side cross inside the centre of the box unchallenged, Taylor’s control deserted him, allowing the goalkeeper to collect the loose ball.
Oswin Carmichael crafted another opportunity for the visitors in the 27th minute. Cutting in from the right side of the field, he fired a powerful effort which went wide of the left corner.
Forced on the defensive for most of the contest, the home side fashioned their best chance in the 42nd minute as a powerful Zachary Francis header aimed at the lower right corner following a left side cross into the right of the area, was denied by the leg of the goalkeeper.
On the other side, Carmichael should have broken the deadlock in the 53rd minute. Receiving a left side cross unchallenged inside the centre of the box, he struck his effort tamely and straight at the goalkez
The correspondence further said “And in order to reduce costs there would be three leagues. The West Berbice League, the New Amsterdam League & the Corentyne League. The winners of each league would meet in a round robin playoff to determine the overall Berbice Champion”.
