Transparency Institute of Guyana Inc (TIGI) will be officially requesting a meeting with Minister of State Joseph Harmon today, according to its President Trevor Thomas.
Thomas told Stabroek News yesterday that the organisation intends to engage the minister on issues of concern as directed by President David Granger.
“While the Minister has issued a statement on the appointment of advisors his statement did not address the fact that these individuals helped the party before the elections. We also have several questions about other matters surrounding his trip to China,” Thomas said.
On April 12, TIGI had told Stabroek News that it will request a meeting with embattled Minister of State Joseph Harmon and send him a series of questions about his conduct and it is maintaining its stand on the corrupt nature of the minister’s actions.
TIGI’s charges of corruption over Harmon’s conduct drew a sharp rebuke from President Granger, who said the group should have sought clarifications from Harmon before issuing its statement to the press.
“In response to President Granger, TIGI will make an exception to our policy of using what is publicly available and will write Minister Harmon to request a meeting and to send him a set of questions on the matter at hand. Without fear or favour, TIGI remains committed to working with the government, citizens and other organisations to foster transparency and to stamp out corruption,” TIGI had said in a statement.
