Adonis not pleased despite rugby team’s defeat of B/dos

“There is still much work to do.”

Those were the sentiments acknowledged by coach of the national 15s rugby team, Laurie Adonis moments after his charges whipped Barbados 48-17 in the 2016 Rugby America’s North (RAN) opening fixture on Saturday at the National Park.

Despite the margin of victory, Adonis stated that there are still chinks in the armor as Guyana prepares to tackle more formidable opponents, Jamaica and Trinidad.

“We still have some areas that we have to work with especially in the line outs and the mauls” admitted Adonis. “We are still a little weak there because they scored most of their tries around that area.”

Adonis said that despite being “pleased” with the player’s effort against the Bajans  and perfect start to the rugby season, Jamaica game is going to be a “different ball game.”

“I think the guys put up a good performance and an I’m obviously pleased with the win. Watching at Barbados we were able to do a lot of stuff that we practiced but coming up against Jamaica it’s going to be a different ball game because it has been years since we faced them and they stand to pose a greater challenge.”

Guyana next faces Jamaica on May 21 and Trinidad on June 19.

Quizzed on if changes will be made to the starting lineup, Adonis stated that “You don’t change the winning formula but revealed that his players will be more ready and roaring to go.

Once the national team is victorious in the above encounters, they will play the winner of the Northern Zone for the overall RAN title and move onto other Qualifiers in a bid to clinch a berth in the 2019 World Cup.
