Man gets four monthsโ€™ jail for breaking into church

A man was on Friday sentenced to four months in jail after he pleaded guilty to breaking and entering a city church.

Rawl Ramsaywack, 25, appeared before city magistrate Fabayo Azore on a charge that he broke and entered the Bethel Full Gospel Church with the intent to commit robbery.

In between his yawns, Ramsaywack entered a guilty plea, while telling the court that he was very tired as he did not get any sleep.

According to the prosecution, Ramsaywack on April 21, around 1.30 am, went into the Bethel Church building and hid behind a piano, where he was later found. When he was confronted, he remained silent, the prosecution added.

Ramsaywack, however, said someone took him into the building so that he could assist them with something but the person ran away and he was left alone in the church. The court heard that the defendant has had other matters in court and was charged with picking mangoes from someoneโ€™s tree.

Given the fact that he has no fixed place of abode, and was previously charged with a similar offence, he was sentenced to four months in jail.
