Terrence Madray, 53, was yesterday charged with the murder of his elderly bedridden mother, whom he is accused of beating to death at their Mahaicony home.
Madray of Good Faith, Mahaicony, was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated on April 21, he murdered Cecelia Madray. He was unrepresented by an attorney.
He appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court and was remanded to prison until May 24.
Cecelia Madray, also known as “Suzy,” 75, of Lot 2 Good Faith, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, was found dead in her home around 8pm last Thursday evening. She reportedly suffered years of abuse at the hands of her son.
The discovery of her body was made by members of the Community Policing Group, who visited the house to check on her after receiving reports of a commotion.
The body, which was on a mattress on the floor covered with a mosquito net, bore several marks of violence: there was a gaping wound to her head and she was bleeding through her ears.
A post-mortem examination performed on the remains of Madray revealed that she died as a result of blunt trauma to the head, a fractured skull and brain haemorrhaging.
Stabroek News was previously told by police that following Terrence Madray’s arrest, he confessed to the crime and told investigators that he took a chair and dealt his mother a blow to the back of her head after he visited her room and she told him something that made him feel bad.
The accused told police that she did not die immediately as she succumbed on Thursday around 2 am.
