A Berbice man was on Tuesday charged with fraudulently converting over $500,000 in items entrusted to him.
Thirty-year-old Mahase Gangadin was read the charge by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan which alleged that between January 11 and January 26, at Georgetown, being entrusted by Rameshwar Singh with 3 Panasonic air-conditioning units, valued $582,921, he fraudulently converted same.
Gangadin pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Attorney-at-law Paul Fung-A-Fat, who appeared on behalf of the defendant, told the court that the defendant sold the air conditioning units but had not received the funds from the buyer. He added that his client is requesting some time for him to acquire all the funds.
The defendant was subsequently placed on $70,000 bail.
May 11 is his next court date.
