The Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts was in an uproar yesterday after remanded prisoner Adam McDonald began making death threats to various persons while brandishing a makeshift weapon.
McDonald was charged on October 6, 2015 along with Jermaine Bailey over the robbery of a phone store near police headquarters. He was also charged with having in his possession a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol and two live rounds of 9 mm ammunition, without being the holder of a valid firearm licence.
During yesterday’s commotion McDonald was heard making death threats while he waved a makeshift weapon.
Stabroek News was reliably informed that McDonald’s antics were as a result of a date he received from one of the magistrates that he was not pleased with.
It was also stated that McDonald had brought the makeshift weapon with him from the Camp Street prison. The weapon was seized from McDonald and he was arrested after aid came in the form of armed police officers. He was then escorted back to prison. McDonald’s possession of the weapon would add to continuing concerns about security at the Georgetown Prisons in the wake of the March 3rd unrest that led to a fire which killed 17 inmates.
