Dear Editor,
There was a meeting by Minister Amna Ally with Hindu Organisations and a call was made for an “umbrella Hindu Organisation.”
That will never work. There are too many big egos involved in the Hindu leadership of Guyana.
Having said that, my suggestion is that instead of an Organisation, set up a Board with representatives from all the major Organisations. They must meet once a month and discuss the various issues affecting their people. Issues like dates, pandits, marriage officers, education, women and children, alcoholism, domestic abuse, mandir operations are some topics that need to be addressed. Should any Hindu group refuse to sit on the Board, then they will have no excuse when they have a disagreement for example, like what happened with the calculation of dates.
May the Grace of The Divine be with all of us.
Yours faithfully,
Nanda Sahadeo.
