Nrityageet 37: A celebration of the Arrival of All Peoples takes to the stage of the National Cultural Centre on Friday, May 6 at 7 pm.
The show, which is for one night only, commemorates Arrival Day.
According to a press release, the dance theatre production forms part of the Golden Jubilee celebration and will showcase unity in diversity as developed over the last 50 years in Guyana.
The release noted that the Nadira and Indranie Shah Dance Troupe production was in its 37th year of presenting theatre arts performances of the highest standard.
The show celebrates diverse Guyanese cultures with an Indian focus and allows young dancers to collaborate in dance theatre in keeping with national goals in maintaining a cohesive society, the release said.
It promised that 2016’s performance will be bigger than ever.
The Nadira and Indranie Shah Dance Troupe MS has been recognised internationally for its high standards in dance theatre in Europe, United States, with the prestigious Madame Iffel Award of Barbados for the Best Traditional Dance. The release said too that the Guyana Theatre Arts Awards recognized the troupe for its Exceptional Diligence in the Pursuit of Excellence, for Best Dance Production in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003 and 2004; Best Costumes in 1997, 2000, 2002 and 2003; Best Set in 2003 and 2004. The troupe, recipient of the Medal of Service (national award) for Sustained and Outstanding Contribution to the Cultural Mosaic of Guyana, also received the New York Folk Festival Award for Long and Sustained Dance Productions of Excellence.
