A man is now dead after he was brutally stabbed by another during an altercation over food which occurred in the wee hours of yesterday morning in John Street, Werk-en-Rust.
He has been identified by the police as 26-year-old Gordon Ross.
The police said in a statement that investigations are being conducted into the circumstances surrounding the death of Ross who was found on John Street, Georgetown with stab wounds about his body
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum yesterday told Stabroek News that after reviewing CCTV footage, investigators were able to identify the suspect, who is known to the police. He is yet to be apprehended.
Ross, who was reportedly a substance abuser with no fixed place of abode, was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he died while receiving medical treatment.
According to reports, the fatal incident occurred around 01:40 hrs yesterday and was the result of a fight over food between the suspect and Ross.
When this newspaper visited the scene yesterday persons were tightlipped about the incident.
Ross’s body is currently at the GPH mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. Up to late yesterday afternoon, no relative had showed up to claim his remains.
