The man who brutally stabbed waitress Michelle Drennon almost three weeks ago has contacted her family twice last week, offering compensation in order to settle the matter.
Twenty-five-year-old Michelle Drennon of Lot 1607 Cadet Lane, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, the mother of an 11-month-old boy was stabbed at least four times about her body—to her back, upper chest and above her shoulder—around 6 pm on Wednesday, April 20.
Reports had revealed that the attacker was previously charged with assaulting her. Relatives said she had recently returned to live with her parents after she and the suspect had an argument.
Up to yesterday, she remained a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where she is said to be recovering slowly. To date she is still traumatized and terrified that her attacker may return to finish the job.
Speaking to Stabroek News yesterday, Drennon’s sister, Tandicka said the man contacted her mother last Friday offering $500,000 compensation, in order to settle the matter without any police intervention. He then called again on Sunday asking if they were ready to accept the money, which he had reduced to $300,000.
According to Tandicka the family has no intention of accepting any offer but rather is determined to see the suspect face the full force of the law.
Tandicka explained that the incident has significantly affected her family. Fearful to return to their home since the incident, they have been staying at relatives. They fear the suspect may try to harm them.
She said although the man has been in constant contact with her family he has never released his location.
However, she is convinced that his relatives are aware of his whereabouts.
