The Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown has sworn in 17 new Constables who recently completed the basic recruitment and training programme for City Constables.
According to a press release from the city, the Town Clerk Royston King in addressing the new Constables said that the City Council needs able-bodied males to execute the mandate of making Georgetown the cleanest and greenest city in the Caribbean. The Chief Constable Andrew Foo said that the new addition would boost the complement of staff particularly in the new divisions that were recently established: Traffic Management and Special Investigation Units.
King congratulated the new recruits on their successful completion of the basic recruits training programme. He told the new constables that it is not all about the money but rather it is about working with the Municipality to realise the wider vision. “You come at a very special time in the history of the Municipality when the Council is working assiduously to restore the pride and dignity of Georgetown,” King said.
He further noted that the new ranks have a special role to play in enforcing the city bylaws. He called on them to work as a team and to “execute [their] functions with dignity, respect and decorum.”
