Davenand Dhandhari, 18, charged in connection with a murder, last week sat one of his first CAPE Examinations at the New Amsterdam Prison. Dhandhari told Stabroek News that he will be writing Law Unit 1, Law Unit 2 and Sociology. He said “The Prison administration allowed my parents to bring my books so I can study”. He explained that he would study up to 8 o’clock every night. He stated that he picked law because growing up he always had a passion for law and his dream is to become a lawyer.
Dhandhari said he wanted to continue with his studies because whenever he is released he wishes to “better himself”.
When asked if he feels he has prepared enough for his examinations, Dhandhari replied with a confident yes.
Dhandhari expressed his gratitude to the New Amsterdam Prison Administration. He said “Thank you to the administration, I am happy for the opportunity”, he added.
Dhandhari was remanded to the New Amsterdam prison some six days ago at the Reliance Magistrate Court on the charge of murdering Omesh Seelall. He is to appear on the 12th May for continuation and will be represented by Attorney at Law Murseline Bacchus. Dhandhari will sit his last examination on June 03.
