KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC- Jamaica’s sports Minister Olivia Grange says she is delighted that her countryman Wes Morgan played an integral role in “creating this moment in history” after Leicester City captured the prestigious English Premier League for the first time on Monday.
Leicester wrapped up the BPL title after nearest rivals Tottenham Hotspur drew 2-2 with Chelsea giving them an unassailable seven-point lead with two games remaining. The Jamaica International leads a side that only last season battled to avoid relegation.
“Leicester City’s story is most fascinating and will certainly be seen as one of the biggest stories in the history of sport, ever,” said Grange.
“It is a special feeling and I am delighted to know that our very own Reggae Boy, Wes Morgan, was integral in creating this moment in history”.
The Jamaican sports minister says she was particularly elated that Morgan was able to lead his team to title honours, with a “symbolic victory” despite their 5000-1 odds. “As minister with responsibility for sport and on behalf of all Jamaicans, at home and in the diaspora, I take great pleasure in congratulating Wes Morgan on this significant accomplishment that has been added to his name as a local and international footballer,” Grange said. Morgan will lift the Premier League trophy with his Leicester City teammates tomorrow when they host Everton.
