Nothing irritates you more than when you pick up your phone to call government departments and other places and there is no dial tone; all you hear is a voice from the exchange at Anna Regina saying you cannot reach the destination. This has been going on for months; you cannot even call the exchange to report that your phone and internet are not working, because you hear the same voice saying that your destination is not reachable. We have no place to report GTT shortcomings, and if this recorded voice should continue, I am fearful that if there is a fire or someone breaches your fence and tries to rob and kill you, then you will not be able to get on to the police station or the fire department for help.
We hear every day that GTT is getting better, but for us here in Region Two, it’s getting worse each day. What is disappointing, however, is the lengthy delay in getting these problems fixed. For me, an analysis of the situation must take the customers beyond the results and the service we are receiving. Even while arguing that the GTT service is rotten and we are bad losers, it is the failure to find a solution which has been affecting us for three decades. It would appear that we have to live with this service forever as nothing is being done to rectify it.
The reality is that rough times are ahead if this continues, since we won’t be able to make contact with our friends and families who are living here and abroad. This breeds a feeling of greater insecurity. The society at large must be sensitized about security if GTT fails to provide an efficient and reliable service. GTT will have to develop its technology if it wants to stay in business.
We can no longer rely on the GTT exchange service at Anna Regina, which has now become too irregular and weak.
