Honouring single mothers: This group of single mothers was in receipt of gift hampers presented to them yesterday by the Sonia Noel Foundation for Creative Arts (SNFCA) in collaboration with the Women’s Association for Sustainable Development (WASD). The initiative is the first of six projects, collectively named “Project 6/50,” which aim to commemorate Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary. Yesterday’s mothers were the first set of a group of 50 women who will benefit from the Project, which will also honour single mothers in Linden, Bartica and Berbice. The women were nominated for the giveaways via social media, where they were then selected by the Foundation. The five other projects include teaching fabric design art to students of the David Rose School for Special Needs, partnering 50 mentors with 50 children, giving US$50 to 50 senior citizens, giving US$50 to 50 under-privileged children for educational material and hosting an exhibition of 50 fashion illustrations by Clinton Duncan.
