The Guyana Draughts Association will this weekend stage a national competition at the National Gymnasium.
Sponsored by Trophy Stall, Bourda Market, the tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday and is part of the Golden Jubilee Independence Celebrations.
“Mr. Ramesh Sunich, Proprietor of Trophy Stall Bourda Market has once again contributed to the development of this board game in Guyana. He has come on board with six trophies for the two days of this Golden Jubilee Draughts Competition,” a press release from the GDA stated.
According to the release, Saturday the Open competition will be contested on the 64-square boards while on Sunday the players will compete on the International 100-square boards.
Both competitions will be six-round Swiss system affairs and registration will commence at 9.30am while the draw would take place at 10.00am.
Play is expected to commence immediately after the draw. Registration fee is three hundred dollars (300.00) per person and players are reminded to be on time for the draw since late registration would cause players to be at a disadvantage once the first round is completed.
