Attorneys representing Keisha Chase, who is charged with causing the death of a pedestrian by dangerous driving, told a city court on Monday that they are seeking to have the charge dismissed.
Chase, an attorney, was charged on March 3 with causing the death of Julian Leitch on November 6, 2015, on Duncan Street, Georgetown, as a result of dangerous driving.
When the matter was called on Monday before Magistrate Allan Wilson, Chase’s attorneys, Murseline Bacchus and Kim Kyte-John, told the court that after receiving statements in relation to the charge they observed inaccuracies and the decision to charge made by the Director of Public Prosecutions was ill-advised and irrational.
Bacchus told Stabroek News that the request to have the matter dismissed would be made to the High Court. He added that Chase was expected to receive a post-mortem report yesterday and when they are in possession of it they will proceed with the matter at the High Court.
During Monday’s hearing, the matter was adjourned to July 27.
