The Guyana Beverage Company continued their support of the Petra Organization Soft Shoes Football Championship, donating an undisclosed sum towards the event yesterday at a simple presentation ceremony staged at the entity’s Diamond location.
Dave Persaud, Warehouse Manager of the entity said “Busta is pleased once again to be a sponsor in event.”
He noted that the company’s prevalence in the sporting arena in the country was apparent through many sporting events locally and abroad and said that the company believes in giving back to the people and reaching out to communities.
“We should all be proud where we are today and where we are heading,” he declared.
Co-Director of the Petra Organization Troy Mendonca thanked the company for coming on board to help make the event a reality, noting the commitment given by the entity will provide the opportunity for youngsters to display their skills and highlight their abilities through a great tourney.
The event, which is set to commence on Tuesday and conclude the following day, will feature 24 community based teams competing in an initial group stage format. Matches for the event will be staged at the Tucville, West Ruimveldt and Santos grounds, with entrance to the matches will be free.
Upon the conclusion of the group stage, the top two finishers from each group along with the four best third place finishers will advance to the knockout round. The competing teams are defending champs Sparta Boss, Back Circle, Campbellville, West Back Road, Charlestown, Bent Street, Old School Ballers, Cross Street Werk-en-Rust, Stevedore Housing Scheme, Sophia, Holmes Street- Tiger Bay, California Square, West Front Road, Queen Street Tiger Bay, Broad Street, Upsetters, East Front Road, North Ruimveldt, Alexander Village, Leopold Street, Channel 9, North East La Penitence, Albouystown and Globe Yard. Winner of the event will collect $300,000 and the Championship trophy while the second placed side will receive $200,000 and the runners-up accolade. On the other hand, the third placed side will receive $100,000 and the respective trophy while the fourth place finishers will pocket $50,000 and the corresponding title.
Other sponsors of the event include the Ministry of Public Health, GTT, Lucky Dollar, Nigel Supermarket, Junior’s Jewellery, Star Party Rentals and 2-J’s General Store.
