Dear Editor,
Your edition on Thursday carried a letter which commented on Sattaur Gafoor’s humanity. I have known this man since the days when the store was in Lombard Street. My wife knew his wife, Ameena, as they both lived in the same village on the East Coast. Their brilliance in business is not only manifested in the structure of Gafoor’s but also in the industrial complex which manufactures many of the building materials sold in their stores. But the most telling part of character is not the physical structures that the public sees but the quiet unseen acts of true humanity.
Sattaur and Ameena quietly build homes for the poorest of the poor throughout Guyana, and have saved countless lives in the work they continue to do in the medical field. This is the most difficult part in life, living your religion. And they both continue to do exactly that.
Gafoor’s will be rebuilt because that’s the nature of the couple and the staff will not starve.
Yours faithfully,
Chico Beharry
