The police yesterday recaptured wanted man and murder suspect Stafrei Hopkinson Alexander who had escaped from custody last December and he is likely to be questioned in relation to another murder which occurred in Berbice some time ago.
This is according to Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum who told Stabroek News that Alexander was arrested at the Kurupukari Crossing Checkpoint, Rupununi.
Blanhum did not reveal which murder the man will be questioned about.
The police in a press release said Alexander of Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was in a vehicle at the checkpoint around 10:00 hrs yesterday when he was arrested.
A wanted bulletin had been issued for him and Robin Maxwell Thomas; they were charged with the murder of Shevon Gordon which occurred at Wismar on April 4, 2015.
They had both escaped from the Mackenzie Police Station on December 8, 2015. However, while Alexander is only now recaptured, Thomas’s body was found floating in the Demerara River in the vicinity of the West Watooka shore, Wismar, Linden on December 9. It was suspected that he drowned.
Alexander and Thomas, along with Adoni Bowen, 26, of Lot 20 Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden, had been charged on May 8 last year with the murder of Wismar businesswoman Shevon Gordon.
The attack had occurred as Shevon Gordon and her husband, Elon Gordon, were about to enter their home. One of the robbers, armed with a gun, confronted Shevon, who had disembarked from her Canter in front of her home. The men demanded the bag she was carrying.
One of the men fired two rounds in the air while she struggled with the other. She was eventually shot while struggling to maintain possession of the bag.
