Machiavelli’s quote is timeless, as it is definitive. In today’s world, everything must appear to be democratic, decent, civilized and fair. But beneath such civility, as a best-selling author remarks, lies a “cauldron of dark emotions – greed, envy, lust and hatred.” A game is being played here. On the outside, fairness prevails.
