After over a year on the run, Thurston Kenrick Williams was yesterday charged with the murder of miner Charles Major, who was fatally chopped at a camp at Mahdia.
Williams appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, where he was read the charge, which stated that between March 5 and March 6 2015, at Dickman Hill, he
murdered Major. Williams was not required to plead to the charge and he was remanded to prison until July 8, when the matter will be called at Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.
The Guyana Police Force last year issued a wanted bulletin for Williams in connection with the murder of Major, who was found dead at a camp located at Dickman Hill, Mahdia, with what appeared to be several chop wounds about his body.
Major found by a miner from a nearby camp, who had passed the area and had previously seen him in the company of another man. Major was rushed to the Mahdia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Following his apprehension last Friday, Williams was reported to have told investigators that he and another man killed Major.
