Consumers from Onverwagt to Ithaca continue to experience interrupted power supply as a result of the damage sustained at the new Onverwagt substation due to the small fire on May 2, 2016, a release from GPL said yesterday.
Immediately after the incident, temporary arrangements were instituted to restore services to consumers from the Onverwagt Generating station, the release said.
Generation at Onverwagt was subsequently affected by mechanical difficulties, which resulted in a disruption of the service to residents between Onverwagt and Ithaca. As a result of this generation shortfall, the company had no alternative besides the introduction of a temporary load shedding programme.
GPL says it is working assiduously to correct these mechanical difficulties in order to restore normal service to these affected villages.
