The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) will stage two days of trials next week at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) in order to select their boys and girls’ teams for the upcoming Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) U16 championships.
“The GABF will hold two days of trials (selection mini-camp) on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th, May 2016 to shortlist players to represent Guyana at the CBC (Caribbean Basketball Confederation) Under 16 young men and women championships,” a release from the GABF stated.
The CBC championships will be held from July 2-17.
Trials for the girls will be held from 9:00hrs-12:00hrs on both days while the sessions for the boys will be held from 12:00hrs-15:00hrs on both days.
“The process allows for any individual not identified on the provisional list to join the mini-camp as a walk-on or on the recommendation of any affiliated club, coach or any representative of the Guyana Basketball Federation,” stated the release.
After consultation with Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) the players selected are: (males) Yannick Tappin, Shamar Anderson, Kevlon Cadogan, Leon Benjamin, Stephon Duncan, (Mackenzie High) Kevon Wiggins, Shamar France, Kelmar Carmichael, (New Amsterdam Multilateral), Kwesi Roberts, Anthony Yansen,(St. Roses High) Andrew Johnson, Nigel Bowen, (Plaisance Secondary) Roydon Glasgow, (Bishops’ High) Kadeem Dover, Isaiah Hintzen, Isaiah David, Keith Adams, Robin Flatts, (Kwakwani Secondary) Akeem Crandon, Kareem Boyle, Kenmon Roberts, (President’s College) , Jordan Alphonso, Jahleel Young, Josiah Daniels, Shamar Atwell, Jether Harris,(Marian Academy) Zion Gray, Johnny Griffin, (Tutorial High) Jamal Persaud (North Georgetown).
The young women identified are: Onika Rogers (Kwakwani Secondary),Daniela King, Odecia Duke (Plaisance Secondary), Jada Mohan, Jahrier Young, Kellian Savers, Georgiana Vyphius (Marian Academy), Tandika Bouyea, Annlesa Barker, Shaiana Barth (New Amsterdam Multilateral), Kesann Charles, Navalli Pineiro, Jayla Jones (Bishops’ High), Ashley Khan (St. Roses), Demelza Nicholas, Annalisa Barclay, Claudia Garraway, Destiny Mc Donald (President’s College).
The coaches identified are Lugard Mohan (U16 Head Coach, Men), Abdullah Hamid (Head Coach, U16 Women), Ann Gordon, Mark Agard, Kevin Joseph, Kirk Fraser, Junior Hercules, Kevin Bonnet, Wayne Hinds, Willon Cameron, Julian Haynes and Dane Kendall.
The GABF has also enlisted USA-based Coaching Consultant, Larry Davis.
“The process includes initial trials, training sessions, (large and small groups) and exhibition games. The GABF and its partners are pleased to be involved with the student athletes of Guyana in preparing for the challenges of international basketball at the Caribbean Basketball Confederation U16 Championships, being hosted in Guyana from 2-17 July, 2016,” the release concluded.
