Marathon stalwart Llewellyn Gardner has returned from Suriname where he secured two comprehensive victories in the Telesur 10 kilometre events.
Gardner won both legs of the over 55 years category. In the first leg in Paramaribo on May 1st, he stopped the clock at 41 minutes and for the second and final leg in Nickerie on May 14, his winning time was
42 minutes and 44 seconds.
Gardner during an invited comment said “The course was a little tough but I managed to win my category because I had no challengers as I was the first ‘Master’ to come in for Guyana.”
Asked if he was satisfied with the times he ran for both events, he said:” I felt I could have done better and gone a little faster. I didn’t get to do speed training so I will have to do more of that.”
Gardner said he wanted to thank his sponsors including Kirt Davis of Safeway Security Systems for assisting him to participate at the event and his coach Leslie Blacks for his continued assistance.
For his victories, the evergreen athlete walked away with monetary prizes as well as medals. Gardner is scheduled to return to competition on May 22nd for the Durban Park 10Km race.
