PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC-A growing number of international track and field stars are lining up to participate in the Trinidad & Tobago Grand Games first Athletics Invitational carded for Saturday at Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port of Spain.
The list includes top United States sprinter Ryan Bailey, the latest to confirm his participation in the Men’s 100m sprint.
Bailey has personal bests of 9.88 seconds for the 100-metre dash and 20.10 seconds for the 200-meter dash and ranks among the top ten Americans ever for the shorter distance.
He joins a cast that includes Jamaican sprinters Natasha Morrison and Warren Weir, a bronze medalist in the 200 metres at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Others athletes due to appear at the games are Britain’s 400 metre runner Christine Ohuruogu, a former Olympic, World and Commonwealth Champion, shot putter Michelle Denee Carter , the current American record holder and Kurt Felix , a Grenadian athlete who competes in the decathlon.
A total of 117 athletes from 25 countries including Trinidad & Tobago are expected to compete in the event dubbed “Showdown At Sundown”.
Organisers say it is the first time in 32 years Trinidad and Tobago is hosting a meet at this level which will compromise 12 Track and four Field events.
