Dear Editor,
Reference is made to a letter published in the Guyana Times on May 18, 2016 by Member of Parliament, Bishop Juan Edghill, under the headline ‘I received no bill from Minister Patterson.’
In his letter, Bishop Edghill indicated that he was not in receipt of a copy of the Draft Bill on Aviation Safety Standards. While I do not dispute that Bishop Edghill did not receive a copy of the document, I categorically deny that my statement was deliberately misleading.
At the time of my statement, I had indeed given instruction for the document to be copied and sent from within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure. However, due to a mix-up in the ministry’s internal mailing system, the document was inadvertently left uncopied and unsent. I was unaware of this situation until I read Bishop Edghill’s letter. A copy of the document was then immediately hand-delivered to him with an explanation.
Sincerest apologies to Bishop Edghill for any inconvenience caused.
Yours faithfully,
David Patterson
Minister of
Public Infrastructure
