Robbery accused identified by mark on privates

Nigel Wellington, who police say robbed a woman and then demanded sexual favours from her, was yesterday remanded to prison on armed robbery charge after a court was told that he was identified by a distinct mark he has on his privates.

The court of Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul heard that on April 9, 2016, at ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Nigel Wellington, 34, of 136 ‘B’ Field, Sophia, armed with a gun, robbed two women of a total of $307,000 in cash and items. Wellington a miner, pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by.

Police prosecutor David Goodridge objected to bail based on the prevalence of the offence and the circumstances of the attack.

According to the prosecutor, on the day in question, Wellington entered the home of the women and robbed them of several items, including cash. After robbing the women, he then singled out one of the ladies and took her into a bedroom.

He then placed his gun to her head, dropped his pants and ordered her to perform a sexual act on him. According to Goodridge, the terrified woman managed to talk her way out of the situation and Wellington fled.

Goodridge went on to tell the court that after a police report was made, Wellington was later apprehended in Georgetown while committing another act similar in nature. He said that while in custody, the accused was then taken to a local medical practitioner to be examined for a distinct attribute that was on his privates as pointed out by his victim to the police. Goodridge told the court that Wellington was positively identified as the one by this certain distinct mark.

More charges of a similar nature are to be brought against Wellington soon, the prosecutor later related to the court.

Wellington was subsequently remanded to prison by Magistrate Ally-Seepaul, who adjourned the matter until June 29.
