A Nabaclis miner was on Thursday granted bail in the sum of $100,000 after he denied damaging more than $700,000 in property in an apparent fit of jealous rage.
Anthony Ward, 27, denied that he, on May 16th, 2016, at Kaneville, unlawfully and maliciously damaged a 40-inch television set, worth $209,000, a refrigerator costing $198,000 and other household items, all amounting to $773,000, and which was the property of Marcia Kewley.
At the hearing before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown, Ward requested time so he could reimburse Kewley for the damaged articles.
According to prosecutor Neville Jeffers, Ward and Kewley had been living together at the time in Kaneville, when the defendant accused her of having a relationship with someone else and threatened her life. Kewley told the court they had shared the residence for close to two years.
Jeffers objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence and the value of the damaged articles, which Ward reportedly broke using pieces of wood. He also related that Ward was facing a threatening language charge at another court.
The accused was, however, released on $100,000 bail and placed under the supervision of a probation officer for anger management.
The Chief Magistrate then advised the complainant to take out a protection order against the defendant.
The magistrate adjourned the matter to June 9th and transferred it to the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
