Pouderoyen sneaked their way into the next round in the 22nd Mayor’s Cup football championships overcoming Soesdyke Falcons 2-1 yesterday at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground.
Viewed by a small crowd, Marvin Frank gave Pouderoyen the lead in the 35th minute as his right foot strike from inside the area went through the legs of the goalkeeper and settled into the back of the net.
The lead remained unchanged at halftime but Falcons grabbed the equaliser five minutes into the second period.
Pouderoyen, though, would not denied a berth to the next round as Dwayne St. Kitts scored in the 80th minute from the penalty mark after his side was awarded the spot-kick following a handball infraction.
Meanwhile, hosts Den Amstel clinched their berth to the next round after downing Kuru-Kururu Warriors 4-2.
The winning team will receive $700,000 and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth place finishers will pocket $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding accolades.
