The Government of Guyana is looking to secure funding from the Islamic Development Bank in a number of areas and is eagerly awaiting the arrival of a country mission team, Minister of Finance Minister Winston Jordan said yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference at his ministry, he informed that he had just returned from Indonesia, where the bank’s 41st annual meeting was recently held.
Guyana has been inducted as the 57th member of the bank.
“Guyana seems to have been well received there. I had a meeting with a member of the bank and he has committed to sending a country mission team to assess our needs within the next few months and we have already left with them some of the areas we would like them to take a look, so we are awaiting the arrival of that team so that we can start the formal engagements,” he said.
He pointed out that with this bank, no interest is paid on monies borrowed but rather an administrative fee.
“So we will be happy to tap in… their huge resources in a wide variety of areas,” Jordan added.
