Slingerz FC completed the first ever unbeaten league campaign in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Beer Elite League, downing Monedderlust FC 5-0 on Sunday at the Leonora Sports Facility.
Julian Wade recorded a helmet-trick in the rout in the second, 32nd, 70th and 78th minutes respectively while Clive Nobrega added to the result with an 88th minute strike.
Due to the win, Slingerz FC finished atop the standings on 40 points and sealed a berth to the elimination round. Monedderlust finished in the seventh position on six points.
Meanwhile, Alpha United dismissed Buxton United 3-0 to finish the league campaign in third position. Veteran marksman Anthony Abrams recorded a brace in the 38th and 63rd minutes while Joshua Browne scored in the 14th minute.
With the result, Alpha United finished the league campaign on 30 points and qualify for the knockout section of the event while Buxton finished their campaign in sixth position on 11 points.
Action in the event continues tomorrow at the same venue with another doubleheader. In the opening fixture, the Guyana Defence Force will tackle the Georgetown Football Club from 19:00hrs while Fruta Conquerors will oppose Pele FC from 21:00hrs.
Winner of the League Finale round will pocket $4,000,000 while the second, third and fourth place teams will collect $2,000,000, $1,000,000 and $500,000 respectively. Similarly, the point’s leader prior to the knockout stage will pocket an additional $1,000,000.
The season champion will then be crowned when the winner of the League Genesis and League Finale respectively faceoff in a single matchup. That winner will then earn an automatic berth at the CFU level.
If the winner of the League Genesis and League Finale rounds are the same team, they will earn the automatic CFU spot, with the second berth going to the team with the most accumulated points in both rounds non-inclusive of the eventual season champion.
