After five days of gruelling action, Team 25 and Wisroc will face-off in the final of the Guinness of the Streets Linden edition following contrasting semi-final wins on Monday.
Staged at the Amelia’s Ward Hardcourt, the Mackenzie based Team 25 unit made light work of the youthful High Rollers outfit, winning 3-0 in front of a sizeable crowd.
Almost falling behind in the fourth minute after a strike crashed into the woodwork, Team 25 snatched the advantage in the 14th minute as the evergreen Collie Hercules scored. Racing down the left side following a two on one situation, Hercules made no mistake as he directed his effort into the left corner, after collecting a right sided pass from Quacey Johnson.
With the score remaining unchanged going into the half time interval, Ryan Noel made it 2-0 in the 26th minute with a first time strike from the right side. While the finish was of high quality, the through pass from Hercules on the left side found the forward unmarked who finished into the roof of the net.
The result was then sealed four minutes later in cheeky fashion as Romain Adams back-heeled the ball from the right side of the field into the left hand corner past the advancing final defender.
On the other hand, it will be a second chance at redemption for last year’s runners-up Wisroc who squeaked past the highly favoured Classic-6 unit by a 1-0 margin.
In a cagey fixture highlighted by few chances, Orandy Wills separated the two sides in the third minute. Receiving the ball with his back to goal, the forward turned and lashed his effort into the centre of the net after the final defender raced out of his area and missed an attempted clearance.
With the results, the teams faced off in the final which was held last night (Tuesday) at the Mackenzie Market Tarmac. Meanwhile, High Rollers tackled Classic-6 in the traditional third place playoff.
Winner of the event will pocket the Championship trophy and $400,000 while the second placed unit will collect $150,000 and the corresponding accolade. The third and fourth placed unit will receive $75,000 and $50,000 respectively and the corresponding trophy.
