A 40-year-old man was yesterday granted $1 million bail after being charged with causing the death of farmer Andrew Keith Simon.
Simon, a farmer, was fatally struck by a minibus while walking along the Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara public road on Monday morning.
The charge of causing death by dangerous driving was read to Robert Grant of Soesdyke, by Magis-trate Judy Latchman.
The charge stated that the defendant was driving minibus BSS 5550 when the incident occurred.
Grant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Prosecutor Vishnu Hunt made no objection to bail and it was subsequently granted in the sum of $1 million.
The matter was adjourned by the magistrate to June 10.
Simon, a 37-year-old father of two of Lot 107 Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was walking along the roadway around 7 am, when a minibus struck him down.
A police source had stated that the driver claimed that he swerved from a vehicle and collided with Simon, who was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he succumbed while receiving attention.
The now deceased man was also an employee of the Guyana Sugar Corporation.
