Police yesterday recovered money and a firearm that had been reported stolen during an attack outside of Demerara Bank at Le Ressouvenir on the East Coast of Demerara on Monday and the two guards at the centre of the incident have been arrested.
The money and the firearm were unearthed buried in a bucket behind a Sophia residence.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum last evening confirmed that three persons including the two security guards, Damion Pearce and Cleveland Pyle who claimed they were robbed during the incident are in police custody. Pyle’s wife has also been detained.
Two other persons are wanted in connection with the crime. The three suspects were arrested during Tuesday and yesterday.
Stabroek News understands that the stolen cash and the firearm were found buried in a shallow grave behind an ‘A’ Field, Sophia squatting area house.
The incident occurred around 8pm on Monday during which Pearce was shot to his left foot. He was admitted at the George-town Public Hospital (GPH) and was discharged on Tuesday. Following his discharge, he was arrested.
The Guyana Police Force, in a press release had said the security guards were making a night deposit when they were attacked by a man who was armed with a firearm. “The perpetrator shot Pearce and relieved him of the night deposit bag which contained an undisclosed amount of cash that had been collected from business places and two .32 revolvers with 10 rounds and escaped in a motor vehicle driven by an accomplice,” the police said.
