Dear Editor,
As we celebrate our Independence Jubilee, many of us will be thinking of the next 50 years and how best to lay a foundation for a happy, prosperous future.
Often you hear the view that there needs to be an increase in population size to make for greater economic viability and sustainability. The million-dollar question is what is the best model to achieve this? One idea could be to adopt a policy guaranteeing citizenship to descendants of Guyanese, irrespective of where the person may have been born or may reside.
In this way, we may be able to attract Guyanese in the diaspora to come home, to become more involved in Guyana’s development and to invest resources.
A thought for our golden anniversary. Happy Jubilee to everyone.
Yours faithfully,
David Yhann
