Dear Editor,
Anyone reading the Stabroek News editorial of Tuesday, May 24 cannot escape the impression that it is based on an actual reading of the Report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Guyana Public Service. This well-informed, incisive editorial is itself a fulsome indicator of the nodal role of the Public Service Commission as the dynamo or catalyst for the essential reforms of the public service.
Among the many perspectives and conclusions emanating from this well-informed editorial is the parallel that can be drawn between the ‘professional’ role of the commissioners and the typical human resource management practitioner in areas of staff recruitment, deployment, development, promotion and termination. Obviously, one would expect a substantial presence of competencies in human resource management among the commissioners or at least available to them.
Do I hear the cynical question? Is Nowrang angling for a role in the new PSC? But of course! Why not put your money where your mouth is?
Yours faithfully,
Nowrang Persaud
