Dear Editor,
Having failed to contact the Minister of Tourism, I am voicing my concerns here for the government to see.
I have three guests from the UK staying with me for the Independence celebrations. They are among the unfortunate ones who have lost their luggage with LIAT. It is now three days since they landed.
“We can’t go out! We’ve got no clothes to wear! All we have is what we stand up in. Every day LIAT promises us delivery of our bags and to date – nothing! It has cast a gloom on what we were hoping would be a wonderful holiday. LIAT needs to look at their service in a big way. This is unacceptable!”
It is indeed unacceptable and the more so because these guests are return tourists who would come back and spend their foreign currency again – but faced with the imbecilic behaviour at LIAT they will now think twice. Their holiday is spoilt. Remember – it’s cheaper to visit the Seychelle Islands than it is to come to Guyana from the UK – so we have to have a top class tourism product if we are to compete.
Minister, please, please get with LIAT at the highest level and voice our complaints in the strongest possible terms. This is affecting not only our guests, but tourism to Guyana as a whole, and must not be allowed to continue.
Yours faithfully,
Peter Bouchard
