Dear Editor,
In your Independence Jubilee Supple-ment you identified Ricardo Smith as the editor of the Graphic Independence Souvenir in 1966. The editor of the Graphic in fact was Montague Smith and Carl Blackman was the Sunday Editor.
Advertising Manager, Ricardo Smith played a significant role in the production of the 1966 Independence issue in so far as the advertising support was concerned. I know this because I worked under Ricardo at the time. The chief graphic artist was Mike Emile supported by yours truly, and we worked around the clock for several weeks to put the paper together in order for it to go for printing in Trinidad at our sister Thompson Newspapers partner, the Trinidad Mirror.
At that time we did not have full colour offset newspaper printing presses in Guyana as we do today, and Thompson Newspapers along with the then General Manager Bob Grandsoult thought it would be fitting and appropriate to produce a mammoth full-colour edition to celebrate our independence.
The newspaper hit the newstands all over Guyana on May 26, 1966, and what an edition it was.
Yours faithfully,
Bernard Ramsay
