President David Granger yesterday receiving a sword that was used by the late Rupert Craig in World War One. Presenting the sword to Granger was Enrico Woolford, who explained that the estate of Craig wanted the sword to be delivered to the President for the 50th independence anniversary. “Primarily because Mr. Craig served in the First World War and he used this sword. On behalf of the estate of Rupert Craig, the Wilkins family, [and] the Craig family, I would like to make this presentation to you, for you to put it in a safe repository in Guyana,” Woolford said during the handing over at the Ministry of the Presidency. Granger accepted the sword and explained that it will be placed in the Military Museum so that generations of soldiers would know the weapon was used by a distinguished Guyanese and that they will be able to learn about the continuity of defence. “…So I am honoured to receive it,” he added.
