Football fans in New Amsterdam are in for a special Golden Jubilee treat this evening when a double-header is staged at the Scots school ground, beginning at 18:00hrs.
The opening encounter will feature a combined New Amsterdam side up against a Number Five selection from West Coast Berbice and in the night cap for Masters over
50s, Hearts of Oak do battle with Rastafari Patriarchs.
Former Junior and senior national footballer, Roger Alphonso will spearhead the Rastas challenge which also includes former nationals, Vibert Butts and Gordon Braithwaite. Other members expected to be part of the Patriarchs line-up are Neville Wiltshire, Terry Plummer, Allan La Rose, Floyd Campbell, Robert D’Anjou, Lloyd Smith and Leon Gordon.
The Hearts of Oak attack will led by former national players, brothers, Adrian and Sherwin Forde as well as Phillip Carrington. Also included are Charles Joseph, Monty Fordyce, Colin Bowery, Brian Harry and Carl Graham.
The opening match will showcase the top players from West Berbice among them Travis Henry, Kevin Cottoy, Kevin Layne Jr., Andrew Bailey, Stefon Moore, Delbert Wilson and Pierre Joseph. The home team will rely on the likes of Dane Johnson, Devon James, Mark Wrong, Delroy Ferdinand, Dirk Henry and Adrian Best.
