Tomorrow’s inaugural ‘Professional Key Shop and Wind Jammer Hotel Golden Mile’ should be fiercely contested.
With the likes of distance dynamo Cleveland Forde, Cleveland Thomas and the hottest current distance athlete on the local circuit, Winston Missigher along
with other young charging bulls in the lineup, the event promises to be scorcher.
Billed for a 4pm start at 704 Sports Bar, the race however, should appeal to athletes of all ages, sizes and abilities. Test yourself against the best super-fast milers on the pancake flat point to point course.
The course runs west along Lamaha Street and ends south into Carmichael Street in front of the Key Shop, so no turnaround to contend with.
Interested persons can call 621-3249 or 231-7106-7 to register for the fixture which will be an annual one on the athletics calendar.
Registration cost $1000.
Missigher has won back to back 10km events, in the process upsetting the long distance torch bearer, Forde and Thomas to become the marked man on the road. The ultra-competitive Forde however will be looking to turn the tide on Missigher and avenge his uncommon loss on May 22.
The $75,000 first prize and winner’s trophy will also be on his radar.
The Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) has promised to uphold the standard of the IAAF in order to ensure the safety of all competitors on race day. See you there. (Emmerson Campbell)
