A Rose Hall town man is now dead after he collided with a horse on the public road in Portuguese Quarter, Corentyne on Thursday evening.
Dead is Michael Anthony Leitch, 28, a cane harvester.
His mother, Sandra Bascom, told this newspaper that her son left home around 8.30 pm on Thursday to go to a nearby shop. She said she heard he was imbibing at a wash bay, when a family friend, Seema Looknauth, of Williamsburg Village, Corentyne, asked him to drop her home. She stated that Leitch did not own a motorcycle and may have borrowed a friend’s.
At the time of the accident, the father of one was riding a motorcycle bearing licence plate number CF 2317.
According to reports, Leitch collided with a horse, slid approximately 75 feet away and slammed into parked motorcar HC 602. Leitch was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His mother said, “When me go to the hospital me see he on a stretcher outside and me shake him and say Michael, Michael wake up. You can’t dead!”
A post-mortem examination has not yet been scheduled.
