The annual Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Open Tennis tournament is scheduled to get underway on June 3. This is the largest tournament in terms of spectators, prize money and players and as such, members of the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association (GLTA) executive met with GBTI to discuss taking the tournament to the next level.
According to a press release, because the tournament coincides with the celebration of Guyana’s 50th Independence anniversary, it will be known as the `GBTI Independence Jubilee Open’ and is anticipated to be the biggest tournament with a difference.
“GBTI has expressed it is once again pleased to be sponsoring this annual Tennis Tournament,” a release from the association stated.
“The bank has noted, over the years, a constant rise in the quality of the world of sport of Tennis and we are proud to be associated with the Guyana Lawn Tennis Association in this regard. More so, the Tournament has taken a timely spin by being dubbed, “The GBTI Independence Jubilee Open 2016,” the release added.
“We are urging everyone to support the Guyana Tennis Association by making every effort to attend the matches,” in went on.
President Jamal Goodluck, Junior Chair Grace McCalman and Tournament Chair Robert Bostwick were present to receive the cheque on behalf of the association.
