The Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) is currently investigating ranks from the Providence Police Station who were on duty when two prisoners escaped.
On Saturday afternoon, just after 4 pm, armed robbery accused Kevin Rose, 19, of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, and Shemar Moore, 20, of Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara escaped from the station. At the time, only two female officers and a male officer were on duty.
Commander of ‘A’ Division Clifton Hicken yesterday confirmed that the police have launched an investigation while they are working to recapture the escapees.
He explained that police have gathered intelligence and he is optimistic that within the next 72 hours the men would be caught.
Information reaching Stabroek News stated that the prisoners managed to break a hole in the lock-ups and escaped through it. When the officers arrived at the cell after hearing the noise, Rose was seen escaping from the hole drilled on the wall, while Moore pushed the officer and escaped. They both fled the compound, leaving the officers in shock.
