Guyana’s Scott Savory and Hamza Eastman occupied the top two spots in the 73rd Somerville Classic Criterium men’s Open pro category one race (Kugler-Anderson Memorial) on Monday beating a star-studded field that included Trinidadians Adam and Steven Alexander.
Savory, who lives in Brooklyn, represented Guyana at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland in 2014, riding for Orca/Lupus Racing Team won the event which is sometimes referred to as the Kentucky Derby of cycling in the USA from Eastman of Team Cocos who placed second and Carlos Andres Brenes Mata of Team Somerville Bicycle Shop, who was third.
Trinidad’s Adam Alexander was fifth and his brother Stephen Alexander 30th.
Another Guyanese cyclist Geron Williams placed seventh.
The race, one of the premier criterium races in the USA, took place on Memorial Day and attracted all the top guns.
