Ahead of Friday’s encounter against South Africa, host of the 2016 Tri-Nations 50 Over tournament West Indies, had their first training session at the Providence National Stadium yesterday.
The full squad, led by fast bowler Jason Holder, warmed up ahead of Friday’s Day/Night encounter against the Proteas with a session which
primarily focused on batting and bowling along with other routine workouts and stretches.
Coach Phil Simmons in brief comments before the session commenced declared that his boys were “raring to go” and he expected a keen contest come Friday when the two sides meet.
Simmons noted that it was important for the team to use the practice session to properly acquaint themselves with the conditions before the tournament starts. The ex-West Indies player also said he was happy to have the services of Off-spinner Sunil Narine who he said ‘Is very important to the West Indies team.”
During practice, most of the players interacted with each other as they carried out their respective routines.
Coach Simmons assisted by other members of the training team guided the players through the session.
The mood during the practice session seemed very relaxed as the players went through their routine with fluency.
Meanwhile, the Aussies and the West Indies first opponents South Africa, landed safely during the course of yesterday and they two will utilize the Providence facility to conduct theirnet sessions today.
